baptism by immersion

This past weekend, and over the holiday, I re-evaluated my beliefs about believer's baptism. I realized for the first time how important baptism is to the christian faith, and to me as a christian. I remember the day I was baptized. -I don't remember exactly what I wore, but I do remember I wasn't allowed to wear white (as recommended by the church) because mom didn't want me to ruin white clothing in the ocean. I remember apologizing to God and hoping it was still meaningful even if I wore colored clothing.- But aside from those random memories, it was a momentous experience. A "milestone of faith" as Tom Pirrone, one pastor at Calvary, calls it. I read the first 10 chapters of Acts (along with bits and pieces of the gospels that pertained to baptism) for source material this weekend, and I was overwhelmed by the significance and importance of the act of being baptized after salvation. Silence as communion with God

Jacob was a man for the other world. He was not cut out for a statesman, nor did he affect to look great, but he was a plain man, dwelling in tents, an honest man that always meant well, and dealt fairly that preferred the true delights of solitude and retirement to all the pretended pleasure of busy noisy sports: he dwelt in tents, As a shepherd. Noise, Noise, Noise!

What does the word mean? (noise) "Sound without value." The counsel of environmental quality. "An undesired sound." American Standards Association. Noise is definitely not wanted... People have long believed that noise has to go along with technilogical progress- it hs taken a long time for us to realize that noise really is bad and that it often can be reduced with little or no penalty to progress. "Great!" we say. "Let's get rid of this unwanted sound, since it is so bad for everyone."... But there are some difficulties, mainly in the way different people think of certain loud sounds. For example, rock music... some people like it- they call it music. Others hold their ears and denouce it as the worst kind of unwanted sound-noise! The first federal laws on noise, which were a part of the Walsh-Healey Public Contracts Act of 1960, simply said that "noise must be reasonably controlled to minimize fatigue and the probability of accidents....
