Heaven
I think a lot about heaven. Not sure if that is a good thing or not... but either way, that's the fact. I have read books about heaven, and I interpret a lot of scripture in the perspective of our future home... heaven. I think that heaven is going to be amazing, though, I have no idea what it will be like. I still anticipate it, and look forward to it. I know that whatever it is, it will be amazing, and all people who accept Jesus' gift of salvation here on earth will be there with God. Awesome!
John 14: 1-6 shed some light on heaven and I have been mulling over it, chewing on it, for about a week now.
Jesus begins John 14 talking to His disciples about His return to heaven. He says that He is going to prepare a place for them and then He will return for them. They tell Him that they don't know where He is going and they don't know how to get there. In response to this statement Jesus says, " I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." John 14: 6
This response blows my mind. First, because he doesn't come right out and say that He's going to heaven, He says indirectly, that He's going to the Father.
Secondly, when Jesus says he is the way the truth and the life, He's speaking of heaven. He is the way to Heaven, that seems pretty simple, but I have never thought of Jesus as the Truth of Heaven. What does that mean? Jesus is the reality of heaven. There is no heaven without Jesus. Without Jesus, heaven does not exist... can I draw that conclusion? I have never thought about Jesus being the life of heaven. It kind-of explains the whole, Jesus lives inside of our heart thing, but it blows my mind. Eternal life is totally dependent upon Jesus. He is the life... the eternal life... It's Jesus. That is crazy, I still haven't put my brain around it. But Jesus is amazing!
The verse also says that Jesus is the way to the Father. Thus, heaven also involves being with God. The Father, the omniscient, all-powerful God. The throne of God is in heaven, Jesus is God, they are three-in-one, Father, spirit, son, but yet they are separate also. Jesus escorts us into the prescence of the Father. He sits at the right hand of the Father... My mind is blown, smoke is coming out of my ears at this point, and I have totally gone beyond the scope of John 14:1-6.
In closing, I just want to say that this passage showed me another peek into what heaven is. Jesus is the truth, life, and way to it. It is exciting, but still very incomprehensible.
