Past Due

The last two weeks have been kind-of busy and up and down. Now we are officially over due date for baby, and though I've been here twice before, it's kind-of stressful. I have been trying to keep up with the schedule of things with the kids. It's been somewhat challenging between our home-search and weekly visits to the midwife, but we have completed two books since the last post.
The first week we read Allen Say's book Grandfather's Journey. This book is about a Japanese man (Allen Say's grandfather), who moves to America and has many adventures before moving back to Japan. After years of living back in Japan, he feels drawn back to America, but never returns. Allen Say is such a celebrated children's author and I happened upon his book Tree of Cranes while I was picking up Grandfather's Journey. These two books complimented each other very well. We enjoyed making origami this week. Learning more about Japan as well as the diversity of America. We were introduced to the second world war and also the idea that not all countries celebrate the Christmas holiday. We did a fun craft putting birds in a homemade bird-cage (caged bird craft). We also began to learn the days of the week and we discussed how a week has seven days. A month is made of four weeks.

The second book we looked at was Clown of God by Tomie dePaola. This book is interesting. I'm not sure it suited our taste. We read it every day and did a juggler craft project, and had fun counting the balls in the book and the vegetables in the book. We also discussed the architecture of arches and pillars. As of Friday, Tristan could point out a Corinthian style column when we saw a picture of Rome in the children's Bible. We also learned the days of the week in French this week, building on last week's discussion of the days of the week and the calendar. The kids and I really enjoyed the book, Venice: Birth of a city, by Piero Ventura. This book works better with Papa Piccolo, however, the library in Colorado did not have this book, so we got it last week and worked it into Clown of God. Unfortunately, Clown of God did not get the attention that it deserved because I made due date mid-week and we also had a meeting to fill paper work out for our soon-to-be new home. I was a little distracted.

I am hoping to do better at keeping the schedule together this week. I'm excited about the activities we have planned.
Here is a 40 week shot. Maybe my next photo update will be a baby photo!
