Disney, VBC and babies

This week I am teaching the Bible stories to four first and second grade small groups at vacation Bible camp at our church. The kids are so sweet and open to hearing the stories. Their faith in the truth of the Bible is awe inspiring.
I am also recovering ( laundry, cleaning, and rest ) from our week in Disney world with the whole Pickering clan. It was a great trip and also a time when all of us Pickerings could get to know Carolyn Confer ( Dan's girlfriend ) a little better. This I think we did, along with thoroughly conquering all four Disney World parks.
Coming up in August I look forward to helping a new mother of triplet girls get her feet on the ground. There is a whole crew of volunteers helping in shifts, and I am so excited for the opportunity to help out with these preemies.
Of course, school is on the horizon, so I guess it's safe to say that things are heating up. It is all good, though. I am looking forward to the unique opportunities coming up, as well as looking back on the fun times I have already enjoyed this summer.

we went last year at this time and it was sooooo hot! the temps were in the 90's with heat index's well into the 100's. I hope the weather was a little cooler for you guys. Glad you had safe travels and look forward to seeing all your pictures.

Catoctin Mountain Park, Thurmont MD

I'm back, after a long break. I wanted to share this awesome park with you. Catoctin Mountain Park in Thurmont, Maryland. Located right off of Route 15 this park is just down the Highway from Gettysburg and is worth the trip! The park offers hiking for various skill levels and is free admission. The kids had a lovely time creek walking along the Blue Blazes Whiskey Still trail, which is accessible from the visitor center parking lot. They were all able to become junior rangers as well. The visitor center has a history and nature display. I've never seen a beaver that close, even if it was stuffed, it was cool!  Catoctin Mountain park borders Cunningham falls state park . Lewis and Clark

It began with our being half-way through the book on the Louisiana purchase on the last day of school. Our interest was peaked and I hated to skip the books about Lewis and Clark that we did not have time to read during last school year, so... The book about the Louisiana Purchase is titled: What's the Deal Jefferson and Napoleon and the Louisiana Purchase , by Rhoda Blumberg. I would classify this book as a textbook. We read it in small portions each day. Then we read a few chapter books about Lewis and Clark and some of the other characters in the Corps of Discovery, namely, Seaman, Meriweather Lewis' Newfoundland dog.
