Colorado Balloon Classic 2013
There is nothing quite like an early morning treck downtown to watch hundreds of hot air balloons ascend into the skies from Memorial Park. This is our second year watching the ascent and it is so awesome! The balloons were blown towards the northwest this year and the big lake is southeast of their launch point. Not many were able to navigate over to touch down on Prospect lake. As we were leaving we even passed one balloon that came down right in the middle of the street downtown. Oops! All in all the balloons are amazing! They have a way of bringing me back to some other time, where it actually made sense to travel this way and there was nothing much better to do than experiment with flying. The cloud hopper balloons are very impressive, the single rider, the pilot sits in a seat instead of a basket and ascends, feet dangling, totally exposed up into the middle of the sky. Thankfully we had clear blue skies this morning. The scene was picture perfect from the ground. I can only imagine the view from up in one of the balloons.
