Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass
Last week we explored the relationship between Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. We did not finish the book, so this topic will bleed into next week for sure.
The book is very detailed. We enjoy this type of biography. The picture book biographies leave us with lots of questions and we end up googling for more information. This book begins with Frederick Douglass' bio and then gives Abraham Lincoln's bio. That's as far as we've read. Because of the title, we know that these two men are going to make friends at some point in the story. So far we have simply drawn some parallels between their life stories.
We are on a bit of a summer schedule now. Still working on math addition facts and counting with Anastasia, but not doing proper math lessons.
We are focusing on foreign language -Latin and Spanish- in lieu of English/Language lessons.
We are trying to learn a little piano, in lieu of Art appreciation and drawing lessons.
And instead of proper science lessons/experiments, we are getting out into nature and enjoying the nice days and the outdoor work.
We are still trying to memorize the names of all 50 states and their capitals. I hope we can get through them all before we begin school again for the fall. Otherwise we are not doing anything for geography.
Last week we took a day trip out to our state capital, Harrisburg. We toured the Capital building and saw a few minutes of the House of Representatives in session. It was really a perfect day. On our way home we stopped by Hershey Chocolate world for a free chocolate bar and some ice-cream.
