The faith of Job
" I came naked from my mother's womb, and I will be stripped of everything when I die. The Lord gave me everything I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!" Job 1:21 (NLT)This week I was reminded of the goodness of God through the life of one of my good friends. She has seen some hard times. I first met her a couple years ago at church, she was living with her mom then, and began to struggle financially, her mom is now living under the state's care due to some mental concerns. My friend has had some health issues as well, making it hard to keep up with work and school. Back when things were really going wrong for her, I heard people talking about how some of what she was going through was brought on by herself. -Of course this was untrue- but as humans we often can't handle suffering without trying to explain it away.As I got to closer to my friend, things got worse, I remember thinking, " God, why have you blessed some with much and others just get hammered in life?" My friend never lost her faith in God though, She used to share with me how God was real, and good, and in control. She has been a constant encouragement in the faith to me over the past few years. Why do I share all of this? Because just like Job, God has given it all back to my friend, plus some! This week I received an e-mail from my friend sharing the latest of the good news that she is now in touch with her dad again. And that her mom is being supported financially by the state. -Both are rather miraculous happenings-For the last few mos. my friend has also been planning a wedding to an amazing young man she's been with since last fall. Her health is good, she's graduating with an associates in Psychology this summer, and even the little things, like being able to afford a laptop again, are being provided by God.Not only do I get to watch the amazing work of the Lord in my friend's life, I get to be in the wedding next summer! I praise the Lord for the priviledge of having such great friends, and for His continuing to teach me through their lives."So the Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning." Job 42:12 (NLT)
