f and g weeks
I am sandwiching two weeks in this one post because I didn't get the chance to blog about them, and I'm now finishing up H! Letter F week we talked about fisherman, fruit and firefighters. I also used this cute rhyme in circle time about five flowers in the flower shop. The kids got to purchase a flower every time through until there were none left. They enjoyed that one. The cutest craft of the week was the fruit basket. I had them actually weave brown strips of construction paper through the basket drawn on cardstock. Then we glued the fruit in the top. My favorite book of the week: I Can Eat a Rainbow by Annabel Karmel. It's a pretty straightforward book about fruits and vegetables of every color, but I enjoyed the animals made out of those fruits and veggies on every page. Very clever! I also enjoy any book that encourages healthy eating habits.
We only really got two days to do the letter G before vacation. I read the story of David and Goliath out of the Bible while the kids colored a sheet depicting David standing up to Goliath. They seemed to enjoy coloring while reading about the story. We also talked about the soft sound of the letter G and made letter G shaped giraffes out of yellow cardstock with orange spots glued on. I hoped this craft would help them recognize the letter. At the library we read a few books about gorillas and gardens but our favorite books recently are Sandra Markle's Animal predators series. We have read many of them (foxes during f week, for example) and this week we read through the one on Grizzly Bears. These books are a little advanced for Anastasia, but the pictures are really great and even I learn something about the animals. I would really recommend this series.
