Visit with Aunt Becky and Z week
This past week, the week of July 4th we had a special visit from Aunt Becky. I think we all had a blast. We hiked around Garden of the Gods, visited Air force Academy chapel, Olympic Training facility, Seven falls and Compassion International. We also got to see some fireworks on the fourth of July, a treat for Colorado Springs. (Thank God for rain!).
Lots of good conversation and game times, and maybe a little less sleep than normal completed our time together.
Since Becky arrived Tuesday afternoon, I began talking about the letter Z last weekend and continued into the week. We heard the story and colored a picture of Zacchaeus, we talked about zippers and zebras and our books from the library were mostly about zoos. One rather graphic book about potty training, Zoo Poo, by Richard Morgan became Anastasia's favorite book this week. I'll be glad to take it back. Z is for Zoo is a beautiful priddy book with rhyming text that we own. We read it often, this week I pulled it out as one of the highlight books. We also had a throw back to the letter Y with a book that finally came into our library about a little yak. Turned out to be an adorable story about this rather mysterious animal (at least, mysterious to us North Americans) When the Snow Comes, by Jonathan Allen.
After dropping Aunt Becky off at the airport, the first thing Tristan wanted to do at home was make a zoo. So we took all of our little plastic animals outside with the wooden blocks and built cages for them and arranged a zoo in miniature. Anastasia even brought her dolls from her doll house to visit our pretend zoo. The mommy's favorite exhibit was the petting zoo with dogs. Tristan said that his zoo would even let her take the dog home with her. Very cute. I'm glad that the Z theme stuck with them.
