Safe Water

Today, I was kind-of letting things get me down, so I decided to take a walk. I went down by Compassion International and their sign reads "realeasing children from poverty in Jesus' name". Those words touched me and reminded me of what is important in life. A few weeks ago I learned about a Compassion initiative called "Safe Water For Life". The idea is that for 55 dollars Compassion is able to provide a safe water filtration system in a child's home. It is good for over one million gallons of water. Also, Compassion is able to educate the family on hygeine and sanitation. Preventable diseases are killing children every day because they do not have access to safe drinking water. Catoctin Mountain Park, Thurmont MD

I'm back, after a long break. I wanted to share this awesome park with you. Catoctin Mountain Park in Thurmont, Maryland. Located right off of Route 15 this park is just down the Highway from Gettysburg and is worth the trip! The park offers hiking for various skill levels and is free admission. The kids had a lovely time creek walking along the Blue Blazes Whiskey Still trail, which is accessible from the visitor center parking lot. They were all able to become junior rangers as well. The visitor center has a history and nature display. I've never seen a beaver that close, even if it was stuffed, it was cool!  Catoctin Mountain park borders Cunningham falls state park . Lewis and Clark

It began with our being half-way through the book on the Louisiana purchase on the last day of school. Our interest was peaked and I hated to skip the books about Lewis and Clark that we did not have time to read during last school year, so... The book about the Louisiana Purchase is titled: What's the Deal Jefferson and Napoleon and the Louisiana Purchase , by Rhoda Blumberg. I would classify this book as a textbook. We read it in small portions each day. Then we read a few chapter books about Lewis and Clark and some of the other characters in the Corps of Discovery, namely, Seaman, Meriweather Lewis' Newfoundland dog.
