The Olympics, the best television
The Olympic coverage is, in my opinion, the best television there is. I still have memories of Nagano! The day-time stories about Japanese culture and then the athlete backstories and the way they tie in to specific events. Of course, Nagano is memorable for snowboarding's controversial olympics debut. The same sport that made Shaun White a topic of household conversation. Though the famous red-head is not a summer olympian (yet) he is among the celebrities attending this year's London games. In an interview with USA Today Shaun said, "This is my first summer olympics and I don't know what to see". Well, lucky for me, I don't have a choice, whatever the network shows is what I watch and it has been amazing coverage! This afternoon is a great example. First I watched the backstory about Great Britain's long distance runner Mo Farah who trained with America's Galen Rudd in Oregon under the same coach. Fighting for his chance at winning a medal in London's games. Then the footage of the race. Before the 10,000M race began you saw Rudd and Farah exchange best wishes. Neither runner looked that great in the beginnning. I thought it wasn't going to work out. They stayed with the pack throughout the race but they made their push toward the end. I was on the edge of my seat for the intense last lap. I held my breath as Farah finished seconds ahead of Rudd. They placed Gold and Silver. Amazing! I'm sure it's no coincidence that race was aired and the backstory, filmed way in advance, aired right before the race. I suppose it's all edited and each event that we see a replay of on TV is perfectly selected. But you know what? That doesn't change my opinion, it's the best television there is. It's even worth putting up with a few commercials.
