Letter D week
D is for Dragons, Dinosaurs and Daddy. We played Dice games learning to pattern match and count (way over Ana's head:), we revisited the concept of a Dozen and discovered that Tristan has 3 dozen matchbox cars. This is an astonishing number to me! Anyway, we also talked about Dairy and Dairy products. Both children really seemed to understand this, and they loved the Dairy cow craft. Anastasia, when asked what she liked about the week, said "glue!". We discussed the Diamond shape and looked for diamond shapes around the house and in our reading through the week. "Twinkle Twinkle little star" really got cemented into Anastasia's head last week. I learned that the name for the shape likely came from the French set of playing cards where each suit represented a station in society. The Diamonds represented the merchant class. Of course, over time all of the differences in playing cards have been standardized into one set, but this name may have stuck. Makes more sense than anything else I could find. Because let's be honest, the diamond shape has no connection to the gemstone!
