Wishing I were a poet
Some days I wish I had poetic talent. The world around me shines in beauty and it's like I can't capture it in words! Frustrates me a bit sometimes. I'm reminded of the scene in The Lord of the Rings where Sam is in Lothlorien, trying to capture Gandalf's fireworks in song and he gets frustrated over his inability to do so. That's how I felt last week as I watched my children making snow angels, the sun glittering on the snow. Tristan and Ana laughing and giggling, fighting for place on the snow covered lawn to make their angels, one right after another. This was Ana's first time trying to conquer the snow angel, Tristan on the other hand put out his best work this week. Perfect little angels with little round heads. I was struck by the beauty of nature and of life and the idea occurred to me that my two little angels were leaving their impressions on this world. Anyway, I'm no poet. It was just a perfect moment and I had to share it.
We visited the zoo this weekend as a family and Anastasia really enjoyed observing the Giraffes. She could not take her eyes off of them. We sat and stared for a long while. Then Tristan and I became mesmerized with the gorilla family in the monkey house. A mommy gorilla carried and sheltered her little 6 month old baby boy "Dembe". He nursed and rode on mommy's back and tried to explore, but momma held him back, some of the other gorillas looked like they wanted to play and momma didn't let anybody get close to her baby! It was amazing to watch the family interactions and the protective momma. Not really a poetic experience, but a cool time observing the animals.
